Hotspot considerations

Before requesting a district-issued WIFI hotspot, please consider the following:

  • Your house needs to be within range of VERIZON cell service
  • The hotspot does not offer unlimited bandwidth
  • Total capacity is 500 MB / day (once this limit is reached the device will cease to work until the following day)
  • The device provides filtered access to the web. Typically streaming sites or gaming sites will be prohibited since they max-out the capacity at a rapid rate.
  • The device is to be used for educational purposes only and its intent is that it be used by the student(s) with a 1-to-1 Chromebook.
  • If your students' teachers are streaming video content to them or asking them to participate in a video conference; the bandwidth of the device will rapidly drop. Unfortunately streaming services will be limited since the bandwidth quota is not limitless. We recommend that your student reach out to their teacher to let them know that they are using a district-issued hotspot in order for the teacher to provide a link to the video for later viewing.

The district maintains a limited number of WIFI hotspots, please contact your building principal or guidance counselor if you think you may need a device.
